Things to do in Townsville
QUEENSLAND : The Sunshine State
Townsville, North Queensland
We have now relocated to Northern Queensland for work. Settling into the nick of things (and getting used to the high levels of humidity, and I mean high..) has been quite cumbersome and so we have neglected this blog a little bit.
Now that doesn't mean we haven't been doing what we love most. If you know us, the one thing you know about us is that we will find something to explore, even in the most mundane of places.
That being said, we have just moved to the edge of the Great Barrier Reef. Yes, I know. It is as brilliant as you think it is. If you are following us on Instagram @tourdecarter or Snapchat @carteraj623 , or on the new social media platform Dayflash , you will have seen what we are upto in true TDC fashion.
For those of you who are not, here is a a little sneak peek of what you are missing out on:

Orpheus Island in the Palm Island group is a pristine day trip with endless views.
We did a day trip to Orpheus Island and enjoyed snorkeling with some fishies at the reef! It was a magical day with some much needed relaxation. The ferry is just a 1.5 hour trip from Townsville, QLD with food included. Highly recommended.

Little Crystal Creek in Townsville, QLD is a good way to cool off in the sultry summer afternoons.
A lot of nature around here in NQ. Little and Big Crystal Creeks are a welcome oasis in the middle of the sultry tropical rainforest. We thoroughly enjoyed Little Crystal Creek for its cold, chilly waters and relaxed vibe. A favorite with the locals, anyone in Townsville must NOT MISS OUT on the Crystal Creek swimming holes.
And saving the best for the last : Wallaman Falls!
The tallest waterfall in Australia is only a 2.5 hour drive from Townsville and a beautiful camping spot. At close to a 900ft drop, these are larger than life itself.

With winter in full swing, it can get quite chilly in the nightime here with temperature in early single digits, so dress accordingly.
The hike starts at the Lookout at the top, and goes around 3.2kms return, all the way to the base of the Falls. With the littlest of luck, and the sun shining, you are bound to see a rainbow formation here, and question the wonder that is Mother Nature.

Wallaman Falls are the tallest permanent waterfalls in Australia.
The beginning of the hike will warn you about all sorts of dangers of the walk down, but all you need is a moderate level of fitness and take your time, and the views are absolutely worth it.
Till we explore next time, stay tuned for our adventures in North Queensland!
