HALLOWEEN EDITION: A VIP Tour De Jigsaw!

Soooooo, we were lucky enough to snag a couple last minute invites to the Queensland pre-release preview screening of the new Jigsaw movie! (You’re welcome, Monica, for the awesome date night ;)
Yesterday evening, in true VIP fashion, we got to experience the latest offering of the ever popular Saw movie franchise, a series that has ticked all the boxes that you would want from a horror/ thriller/ gore film. Representatives from Studio Canal set the mood at The Myer Centre in Brisbane with a Red Carpet welcome and photo area complete with Jigsaw masks and tricycle. As the lucky few were ushered in, we grabbed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and awaited the ride that was to come.
This movie follows on the story of Jigsaw, the infamous serial killer and a twisted “genius”, who makes his victims face the choice to repent their sins or face horrible consequences. He is sure not to directly harm them, but ensures (by violent and graphic repercussions) that they understand that the fate of their lives is in their own hands. The way he sees it, he saves lives. #JigsawSaves. The characteristic that sets Jigsaw apart is that his work is a puzzle, a maze, a game, and oh what a great game it is. It draws you in, and you find yourself silently emoting with the “players”.

The biggest speculation after watching the trailer is why all the Jigsaw talk now that he has been dead for almost ten years? Is he alive? Is he not? We can’t really expand on that without giving too much away but the answers are on the other side of that cinema (trap)door.
In the original Saw movies, the torture devices were often designed to reflect the sins of the players, adding a "personalised" touch to the whole process. This movie continues the pattern, in true serial killer fashion, and even manages to add a little extra to the players in this one. If you are like us, or an avid fan of the series, we can guarantee that you will not be disappointed with the concepts in this latest one. We do, however, recommend that if your Saw is a little rusty (pun intended), brush up on it real quick. Trust AJ, he regrets bailing on having that Saw marathon last Sunday..
With posters featuring taglines such as “He is Everyone” and “We all have a part to play”, Jigsaw is intriguing. This movie is a very clever one, and with its twists and turns, in the end it really is you putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. As Jiggy himself puts it, "The game is simple. The best ones are..."
Overall, this is a fast paced movie with a mixture of drama, thrills and the occasional laughs, all rolled into one; with an ending that has you going ”“Ohh…". This may very well be classified as a resurrection of the original Saw franchise as a final nail in the coffin. However, it is by no means boring or repetitive. If you’re looking for a good flick to go watch this month at the cinemas, give Jigsaw a try.

Spoiler Alert: AJ was unmasked as the new Jigsaw.
Jigsaw is out just in time with special screenings on Halloween, and you’re in for both tricks and a treat.

Let the game begin.
