We landed at the Saigon Airport. How we somehow dodged motorcycles and scooters, crossing streets without any guidance without any scratches on us, was a surprise to both of us. We stayed smack in the middle of HCMC District 1, around the Ben Thanh market and all the other major attractions. On our daily walks, we thoroughly enjoyed the sights and sounds of typical Vietnam traffic and also the locals as we browsed past the markets and street vendors.

 

We spent the majority of one day at the Cu Chi Tunnels and to be amidst such a historical place was a magical experience, despite all the horror stories that came to life as we walked around and observed. Our time at the War Remnants Museum (highly recommended!) was yet another day that was filled with the sad realization of the violent nature of humans. We were deeply moved by these places and cannot stress enough the need to visit them when you are in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

We were also able to observe the French influence on the city and thoroughly enjoyed more than a few Banh Mi’s while overlooking the historical Post Office and Cathedral.
