AUSTRALIA

Queensland
The Sunshine State, a place we call home.
A very cliche G'day mate! from the land down under!

It is almost the end of AJ's third year living in Queensland(and Monica's second) and they are proud to call this beautiful place, home. Queensland covers almost all of North Eastern Australia and is HUGE! Trust us on this, the one time AJ drove a 16 hour journey from the GC to Winton, and still would have had around 9 hours to go before getting to NT, the next state over! But you know what this also means, an equally long coastline! We are told Queensland has approx. 7000km of coastline, so as you can imagine we always carry around a 1l tub of sunscreen in the trunk (Aussie: boot) of our car.

Hikes and trails are galore all over Queensland, as National Parks such as Springbrook, Girraween, Boodjamulla offer something different for everyone's taste. We even walked across the Tropic of Capricorn in Rockhampton!

The region where AJ and Monica live in Queensland is called the Gold Coast, and aptly so. We are only about 45 minutes south of the state's capital city of Brisbane, and 30 minutes north of Tweed Heads on the New South Wales border. Daylight savings is observed in NSW but not in QLD so it can be quite confusing when we go for a casual beach day at Coolangatta or a take a little stroll on the shore over to Rainbow Bay. The Stradbroke Islands offer plenty recreational opportunities and some gorgeous vistas. AJ particularly recommends swimming with the shipwrecks in Moreton Bay. Being a tropical place, the Gold Coast region is also prone to having a storm season, which makes for some amazing photographs.

Other places to note in Queensland are Noosa in the Sunshine Coast, Cairns (which we haven't been to yet!) and AJ's favorite, Outback Queensland.

Key Takeaway: Put on your sunscreen, get your thongs and keep it relaxed, because #ThisisQueensland.
